Fortuna Lander[]
Judy Robinson approaches the site of the Fortuna Lander.
The Fortuna Landing Craft was a spacecraft designed in conjunction with the Fortuna Program. It was sent on an expedition to explore space attached to the Fortuna Space Station. Once the Fortuna Station reached its intended destination, the computers automatically transferred the crew to the Fortuna Lander and initiated a descent sequence, where the craft successfully landed and remained untouched for about 20 years. During this time, the computers never woke the crew from their cryosleep sequence, as it deemed external conditions to be too unsafe.
However, the astronauts onboard were able to be recovered by Judy Robinson, who was able to locate the craft after her expeditionary force of 97 children and teenagers also became stranded on the same planet with a similar predicament. Using a small handheld radar unit, she was able to locate the lander's exact position and gain entry into it. There, she successfully woke the Fortuna Mission Commander from his cryosleep, Grant Kelly.
With his assistance, Robinson was able to move the remaining crew members -- who were still in cryosleep at this point -- onto the lander's built in rover and bring them all back to Robinsons' colony back down the mountain.
Following the departure of Judy Robinson and Grant Kelly, the lander was never mentioned again. It is assumed that it is still fully operational to this day, as no evidence points to it ever being severely damaged or grounded in any way. In fact, it's likely that a person who comes across it could commandeer it back into orbit! Granted, they wouldn't get very far, but it just goes to show that this craft is quite literally still in perfectly pristine condition, even after 20 years.
Lander Features[]
Autopilot computer: The Fortuna Lander is equipped with an extremely sophisticated guidance and life support management computer that can handle almost every vital craft operation with ease. It can perform orbital maneuvers, land the entire craft safely and presumably takeoff and ascend, all completely automatically. The computers also control life support systems, which include the cryosleep system. Since the computers deemed the surrounding environment to be unsafe for human exploration, they never woke the crew up from their slumber.
Cryosleep System: The Fortuna Lander is equipped with 5 Cryosleep chambers, one for each crew member. These chambers allow the user to be placed into a vegetative state that will preserve their life in cryogenic environments.
Exploration Rover: To help aid astronauts in exploring new planets and areas, a surface rover was included with the Fortuna Lander. It was stored in the lander's cargo bay and could fit two people along with a large amount of cargo in the rear.
Main Engines: The lander is equipped with multiple different engines that assist the craft in landing and ascending safely. Since the Fortuna Lander landed but never took off and returned to the Fortuna Station, it is assumed that a decent amount of fuel remains in the lander's fuel reserve, though it would not be enough to reach anywhere particularly interesting except an orbit around the current planet.
