Hiroki Watanabe is a character on Netflix's Lost in Space. He is a scientist, and at the start of the series he was travelling to Alpha Centauri with the 24th Mission with his daughter Naoko and granddaughter Aiko.
He is a skilled entomologist and brought with him a net to catch bugs. ("Transmission") As a scientist, he felt that it was important to be selective about the release of sensitive information, lest it result in a panic or other unforeseen consequences. He and Maureen Robinson were the only ones who realized early on that the unknown planet on which their families and the other members of the 24th Mission had crashed was doomed within a matter of weeks or months.
