Captain Kamal is the pro-tem-captain of the Resolute in Netflix's 2018 television series Lost in Space. She assumes command of the Resolute after Captain Radic is placed in a medically-induced coma.
She is initially against Maureen Robinson's advice and guidance, including her suggestions that the Resolute can survive being plunged into an atmosphere, however she eventually comes around.
Personality & Character[]
After Captain Radic is placed in a medically-induced coma, she assumes command of the Resolute. Her command is initially tense, as she is forced to make the decision that the Resolute must leave for Alpha Centauri without the people stranded on the planet below. Maureen strongly protests against this, but Kamal initially does not see a way around it. Furthermore, when the Resolute is infected with metal-eating pathogens, she opts to blow the piece of the ship up, including the four aboard.
Eventually, Don West is able to persuade her not to do this, and successfully saves the four aboard that section of the ship. Later, Maureen stages a hijacking of the ship, taking control of the bridge and operations aboard the Resolute. When Maureen explains her plans to dive into the atmosphere of a nearby methane-filled planet, Kamal dismisses her, initially believing that the Resolute cannot sustain being plunged into an atmosphere. Maureen is successful in plunging the Resolute, much to Kamal's surprise, however she loses control of the bridge shortly after. Kamal finally realizes that Maureen is right, and despite Hasting's warnings, Kamal uses the Resolute to clean the water, allowing them to pick the remaining colonists up before leaving for Alpha Centauri.
