Nothing Left Behind is the fourth episode of the third season of Netflix's Lost in Space. It premiered on Netflix on December 1, 2021.
Summary[]
As the adults race to destroy all clues to the location of Alpha Centauri, the Robinson kids receive an ominous message from SAR.
Plot[]
Let's get started[]
With the Jupiter having successfully escaped from the shattered planet, Grant Kelly wonders just what happened to cause the devastation. Will tells him that they thought at first that it was an impact from one of the meteors, but a meteor could never create that level of destruction. Grant wonders what just did. Judy enters, saying that she doesn't want to stay any longer than they need to. She asks Will to check on the Robot and Penny to check on the kids. Penny asks why she gets 97 jobs and Will just one. "You're better with the kids than he is," she tells her, that they're intimidated by him. "Next stop, Alpha Centauri," she tells them. Grant stares at the Fortuna, saying it was the greatest ship ever built and never even had a chance to complete her mission. "She kept you and your crew alive," Judy tells him. He tells her life isn't just about survival, but about making a difference. She brings up the auto-pilot situation from earlier, but he tells her there's no need to dwell on it. "Understood," she agrees.
Penny goes to the kids, getting them ready. Will plays the Robot recordings of the alien sounds. He says he thinks it's some kind of language from the Robot Builders. He asks if he knows what it's saying, but gets no response. He asks him if he understands what he means when he talks about programming. "Yes, Will Robinson," he tells him. Will asks if maybe the sounds were the way the builders controlled the robots. Penny comes up, telling Will that her 97 things are done and his one still hasn't turned on the map. Will tells the Robot to go ahead, that they can work on this on Alpha Centauri. "Hold on," says Will as they hear a low humming. The Robot's lights start turning on. "Is he connecting to Scarecrow?" wonders Penny.
Robot is, indeed, connecting to Scarecrow, but it's SAR that is there with him, forcing him to make the transmission. Penny shouts out hello, then wonders why nobody is answering. As the Robot displays an image of a star system, Judy comes in, asking what's taking so long. She observes the Robot's display as Vijay realizes it's not the Alpha Centauri system that's being displayed. Judy tells the Robot to stop, that it's not where they want to go. Vijay sees Jupiter spacecraft on the display and realizes they're seeing where their parents are. "Danger. Family," warns the Robot. Will realizes that SAR is the one showing them this and SAR disengages the connection. SAR then cuts Scarecrow's power. "Scarecrow's gone, isn't he?" asks Will, telling the Robot he's sorry. Penny asks somebody to explain what happened.
As alarms blare aboard the Jupiter of the adults, Victor asks what changed that they're no longer safe. "Scarecrow," explains Maureen. She tells them that he was captured and so the Robots know everything he does. The Robots are en route. Naoko points out that there's no way they can outrun the ships, that they'll pick them off. They begin talking alternatives, but John cuts through the chatter, saying there's nowhere to hide and they have nothing to defend themselves with. He says they can't save themselves, but they can focus on the people they can save: the children. He explains that SAR will try to find the location of Alpha Centauri, so they need to get rid of anything that might be a clue. It all needs to be destroyed. He warns that if they leave even a single scrap behind, it will all be for nothing. "Let's get started," he tells them.
Mother in all of them[]
The group begins, a hurried frenzy to destroy and erase everything and anything that might provide so much as the slightest clue. John watches the promotional video of Alpha Centauri. He tells Maureen that at least they know now that the children are safe and will make it. Sadly, he deletes the video, a message warning that the action cannot be undone. On the childrens' Jupiter, the children discuss the merits of going to rescue their parents, knowing that it's a trap. Vijay says they can't just let it happen, but Liam says they need to think things through. Penny, however, says that SAR didn't just make a threat, but a mistake. He showed them their parents' exact coordinates. Judy says it's a trap and that she was given direct orders to take them to Alpha Centauri. Penny says they would want them to at least try, but Judy says they want them to get to Alpha Centauri safely. "What about what we want?" asks another of the children, Noah. Judy addresses the group, telling them there's a big difference between wanting to do and pulling it off, that SAR will send everything he has after them.
Samantha raises her hand. She says she still wants to try. The others all raise their hands, one by one, and those that were seated standing up. Grant meets Judy alone, asking if she needs anything. She tells him that she does, that there's no way they can outrun SAR. She says she just doesn't see how it's possible. He tells her that she's right, that not even the best pilot or computer can do what she's asking. He says that if you're not faster than them, you'd better be smarter. Penny tells her that she thinks she has to solve it, but she's not alone. Grant tells her she's the captain and that votes don't matter, no matter how many raise their hand. It's her call, and he believes it will be the right one. Judy agrees that every problem has a solution, a bit of their mother in all of them. She asks who wants to start in finding a solution. Will stands, saying he thinks he knows what to do.
The desperate frenzy to destroy anything that could lead the Robots to Alpha Centauri. Maureen, however, is reluctant to destroy Penny's memoir, saying there's nothing that could provide them with a clue. John holds his hand out. She clutches it to her chest. He tells her it's okay. With ten minutes to arrival, John greets a man making last rounds to collect stuff for destruction. The man thanks him, saying that thanks to him his kids will be safe, but John says it's thanks to all of them. Ava has to calm Don West down when he starts getting a little too destructive. She tells him to relax, that the Robots won't find any trace of Alpha Centauri. "Neither will we!" he shouts, asking what the point was for a future that was never going to happen. She tells him that hope was the point. The automated voice announces five minutes to arrival and she gives him a comforting hug.
Penny tells Will that everything is ready. She reassures him that it's a good plan. He agrees and Penny leaves. After she does, however, he makes a recording, saying that if you're watching it then it is his final transmission. On the adults' vessel, everybody checks in, agreeing that everything has been swept clean. Victor says he's happy his children are there together, that Vijay is a better man because of it. "He's already a good man," Maureen tells him. The first Robot vessel arrives. "It's been an honor," says Victor. Everyone stands in silence when suddenly they pick up an energy spike at the solar benchmark, an incoming spacecraft, a Jupiter. "It's the kids," realizes John. "What the hell are they doing here?" "No!" sobs Maureen. "Will Robinson," says SAR.
Another diversion[]
John gets on the radio, telling Don to divert them away. "Belay that order," says Judy. Maureen asks what the hell she's doing, if she's crazy. "Crazy tends to run in the family," Judy replies. Maureen realizes she's not broadcasting from the Jupiter. John wonders just where she is. "That's impossible," says Maureen, as the Fortuna is revealed. Judy hails, saying they are there to assist. "The Jupiter was a decoy," realizes John. Maureen wonders just what the ship is doing out there. "Rescuing you, you're welcome," Penny tells her. And so, a joyful reunion is had between the children and their families. Judy tells John that she knows he gave her an order. He tells her that he gave her command and what she did with it was up to her. "Where's Will?" asks John. "Who's flying the Jupiter?" wonders Maureen. That, however, is the auto-pilot. Will enters and cheerfully greets his family. "You've gotten so big!" exclaims Maureen. The family embraces in a tight hug, promising to never separate again. Will, however, looks said. Judy takes command, telling everyone to head for their Jupiter's, that the decoy won't hold for long. Don tells them to do what she says and that they've assigned transports to anyone who doesn't have their own Jupiter. "Nice suit," comments Judy. "I leave for a year and you're management?" He asks if he should call her "Captain Dr. Robinson." "Just Judy," she tells him, hugging him.
Maureen asks Judy how she found the Fortuna, then is shocked to see Grant. "How are you here?" she asks. He tells her he's still trying to figure it out himself. She tells him everyone assumed the worst. She asks how he found their kids. "They found me," he tells her. Their reunion is cut short as everyone prepares to board their respective vessels. Maureen asks where the Robot is, and Will tells her that he's still on the Fortuna. John asks him to get the Robot to hold the rift until their through. Will, however, splits, then intercepts Smith's capsule, telling the team to put it in the med bay. He then goes to the Robot, saying he needs to tell him what's really going on. He says they're staying there, that they're staying behind. "Danger, Will Robinson," he tells him. "Only for us," he says, that since they won't have an engine, they'll be safe. Only they will be waiting for SAR, together, and they can put an end to it.
SAR boards the decoy Jupiter, only to find it empty. The Robot opens the rift. Will opens up Dr. Smith's capsule. He tells her to wake up. "Are we on Alpha Centauri?" she asks. "You've got to be kidding me?" she says, saying that she didn't get a vote. He tells her she'll get to the colony, but he needs her help. He says he held up his end of the deal and now it's her turn. The ships enter the rift and Judy says that they're up. John, Maureen, Don and Penny enter a room to find Dr. Smith. "Which seat's mine?" she asks. John says that he thought she was supposed to dead. "I was supposed to be a lot of things," she replies. Maureen asks how this is possible and Penny explains that she stowed away. As Will sneaks about, Smith tells Maureen that she actually owes her survival to her and the compartment she built, that she's really good at squeezing into tight spaces. Judy tells Penny to go grab Will.
They ready to launch, but just then, alien reinforcements arrive. Maureen says the rift is still open and they can't let them through. Will plays the alien screeching on the speakers. Two Robot ships crash into each other. Will is knocked down and John grabs him, telling the Robot it's time to go and to close the rift behind them. Will fastens in, Don next to him with Debbie the chicken. They proceed through the rift, and the computer sounds a proximity alarm. "It's SAR," John realizes. Maureen says that he can't go to the colony if they don't. John shouts for the Robot to take them someplace else. Anywhere else. "Wait, what?!" wonders Smith. So the Robot does so, but they lose power in the process. The others exit the rift, arriving at Alpha Centauri. "We made it!" cheers Vijay. "Sir, it looks like we're one short," reports Naoko. "The Jupiter 2. "Where are they?" wonders Victor. The Jupiter 2 and Fortuna come in fast on an alien planet, the Robots following behind them. John reports that everything is dead and that they'll have to eject. Maureen says they'll lose the ship. "We could lose more than that!" warns John. "We're bailing!" He counts three and they eject. Judy and Maureen's' ejectors, however, are jammed. They struggle desperately as they hurtle towards the planet.
