Rust virus

The rust virus was a term given a fast spreading contaminant found on the amber planet which had the ability to break down most metals. The rust virus was responsible for grounding most of the fleet of Chariot vehicles on the planet. It also wreaked havoc on a well which John Robinson was repairing, causing him to fall and become trapped and injured. ("Run") Despite the best efforts of the crew of the Resolute, the virus spread there as well and began affecting a portion of the ship. This caused Penny Robinson, Vijay Dhar, "Dr. Smith," and Mr. Jackson to become trapped. Fortunately, the group was saved thanks to some fast thinking by Don West and the affected section was severed from the vessel, saving the remainder of the ship. ("Severed")

As discovered by Angela Goddard, The virus could be stopped if it was Deoxidized it with Ammonium, The rust virus crisis on the resolute was solved when the Resolute (Controlled by a Mutiny led by Maureen Robinson) dived down into the atmosphere of a nearby Gas Giant's ammonia belt and sucked up enough ammonium gas to 'flush the precipitate out of the oxygen-generating system'. This procedure was a success, with inconveniences happening, but casualties being avoided.
